How to Set a Default (Catch-All) Email Address

Decide what happens to mail sent to addresses at your domain that don’t exist.

← Help Center

The default address — often called a catch-all — handles mail sent to any address at your domain that doesn’t have its own mailbox or forwarder, such as a typo like sals@yourdomain.com.

Change the default address

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Email → Default Address.
  2. Choose your domain.
  3. Select what should happen to unrouted mail: Discard the email while your server processes it by SMTP time with an error message (recommended), or Forward to Email Address.
  4. Click Change.

Tip: We recommend rejecting unrouted mail rather than forwarding it. Catch-all addresses attract large amounts of spam.
