How to Back Up and Restore Your Website in cPanel

Download a copy of your files, databases and email, and restore it when needed.

← Help Center

We keep courtesy backups of every account, but it’s smart to download your own copy too — especially before big changes like a theme update or a redesign.

Download a backup

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Files → Backup.
  2. Under Partial Backups, click Home Directory to download your files.
  3. Click each database name under Download a MySQL Database Backup to download your databases.
  4. Optional: download your Email Forwarders and Email Filters.

For a complete copy of the entire account, use Download a Full Account Backup. It is generated in the background and you’ll get an email when it’s ready.

Restore from a backup

On the same page, use the Restore boxes to upload a home directory backup or a database backup you downloaded earlier.

Tip: Full account backups can only be restored by our team. Open a ticket and we’ll take care of it — we can also restore from our own backups if you don’t have one.
