The File Manager lets you work with your website’s files without installing any software.
Open the File Manager
- Log in to cPanel and open Files → File Manager.
- Your website lives in the public_html folder. Double-click it to open it.
Common tasks
- Upload: click Upload in the toolbar and drag files into the window.
- Upload a whole site: zip it on your computer, upload the .zip, then right-click it and choose Extract.
- Edit a file: right-click it and choose Edit.
- See hidden files such as .htaccess: click Settings (top right) and tick Show Hidden Files (dotfiles).
- Change permissions: right-click a file and choose Change Permissions. Files are usually 644 and folders 755.
Tip: Deleted files go to the File Manager’s Trash until you empty it, so you can restore something removed by mistake.
