How to Schedule Tasks with Cron Jobs

Run a script automatically every few minutes, hourly, daily or weekly.

Cron jobs run commands on a schedule — for example, sending a daily report, clearing a cache, or running an application’s scheduled tasks.

Add a cron job

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Advanced → Cron Jobs.
  2. Optional: enter a Cron Email address to receive each job’s output.
  3. Under Add New Cron Job, choose a timing from Common Settings (for example, Once Per Hour), or fill in the minute, hour, day, month and weekday fields yourself.
  4. Enter the Command — for example: /usr/local/bin/php /home/USERNAME/public_html/cron.php
  5. Click Add New Cron Job.

Tip: Add >/dev/null 2>&1 to the end of a command to stop it emailing you every time it runs.

Not sure of the exact command your application needs? Its documentation usually lists it — or ask us.
