If your domain is registered with another company, you’ll point it at our servers by changing its nameservers. Your website, email and DNS will then be served from your Electric Kitten account.
1. Find your nameservers
Your nameservers are listed in your hosting welcome email and in your client area under your hosting service. There are usually two — copy them exactly.
2. Update them at your registrar
- Log in to the account where you registered the domain.
- Open the domain’s settings and look for Nameservers or DNS servers.
- Choose the option to use custom nameservers.
- Replace the existing entries with the Electric Kitten nameservers and save.
3. Wait for the change to spread
Nameserver changes usually take effect within a few hours, but can take up to 48 hours to reach every network worldwide. During that time some visitors may see the old site.
Tip: Moving an existing site? Ask us to transfer it before you change nameservers — it’s free — so there’s no downtime.
Prefer to keep your DNS where it is?
You can leave the nameservers alone and only point the domain’s A record to your hosting account’s IP address (shown in cPanel under General Information). Email records then stay with your current DNS provider.
