How to Create a MySQL Database and User in cPanel

Set up a database for WordPress, a store or any custom application.

← Help Center

Most web applications store their content in a MySQL database. If you use the one-click installer, it creates the database for you. To set one up manually:

Use the Database Wizard

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Databases → Database Wizard.
  2. Enter a name for the database and click Next Step.
  3. Create a database user with a strong password and click Create User.
  4. Tick ALL PRIVILEGES and click Next Step.

Note the full database name and username — cPanel adds your account name as a prefix, like account_dbname. Your application will also ask for the database host, which is localhost.

Manage the data with phpMyAdmin

Open Databases → phpMyAdmin to browse tables, run queries, or import and export .sql files.

Tip: Always export a copy of your database in phpMyAdmin before running queries or importing data.
